This was Safi's first encounter with what she finally concluded to be a carnivorous type of marine plant. She initially spotted it upon descending to the bottom of an underwater trench and finding it teeming with other plant life; strange for a place void of many nutrients or light.

The faint blue glow on the rock walls caught her eye, and she found the source for the nutrient-rich sea floor - the seeminly innocous sea grass closer to the surface, where more sea life swam, was in fact entangling any creature clueless enough to brush up against one of its longer tendrils, which would immediately curl around in death grip. The decayed remnants that did not make it into the crevice where the plant resided would then drift to the bottom of the trench to enrich the life below. The glow from inside the crevice was from another organism entirely, likely forming a symbiosis with the plant.

She would need better instruments to further test it, but Safi suspected there may be some mechanism for active digestion, either inside the crevice among the roots, or perhaps somehow secreted by some other part of the plant. She also concluded that this plant was likely not very edible.
