[Survey] Riqu discusses their roommate
(From the perspective of Riqu, Caprice’s roommate and friend.)
I don’t think it would be fair to describe Caprice as “ditzy”, but they aren’t too concerned with heavy or complicated subjects, that’s for sure. The less patient of their peers think of them as a bit frivolous. Their cares and concerns lie solely in the world of aesthetics and pleasure, and almost nothing holds their attention for that long. It’s not that they’re disloyal, either. They’re just particularly loyal to the present moment and whatever sensation has mostly recently gripped them. The people close to them know what to expect and never seem to mind. Actually, they’re incredibly loved.
I don’t think the word “ditzy” applies to them well because it implies some level of incompetence. No, somehow, through all that silly nonsense, they are incredibly successful. Not in the, like, money sense, I guess. But they seem to get pretty much everything they want. Maybe they rolled high on their “Luck” stat or something… or maybe it’s just that they know how to set their expectations. Their social endeavors seem to work out perfectly. Nothing gets in the way of them trying new things and making new experiences.
On top of this knack for identifying the right paths, I’ve never seen them particularly down about anything, unless you want to count one of their comedic bouts of melodramatic complaining, which always end up harmless and even ease tension. They use this skill to point out legitimate problems, usually. It’s a quality that actually makes them incredibly reliable. For example… This morning, I was very ready to stay in bed a few hours longer. I had some books to read and the idea of coming out here to the Carnival, well… let’s just say all this stimulation doesn’t invigorate me quite the same way it does for Caprice, and I have a hard time remembering that I actually do like this stuff, so I was ready to skip the festivities altogether this year. When they heard I might stay in today, they threw quite a fit. They threw open all the curtains in the house and pointed out the windows, scolding me for squandering the gift of a beautiful sunny day, and bemoaned the state of my health and hygiene, pretending that my bioluminescence had grown dim, and indicating the slightly-shabby state of my bedroom as evidence that I was suffering, and needed a day out to have some fun, immediately.
They were right, of course. I did have fun today. I always find some booth in the market that surprises me. This time I found a book booth with an old used romance novel that’s full of scribblings and doodles in an alien language I’ve never seen before. Or rather, Caprice found it, they were interested in the illustration on the cover. This bonfire is pretty wonderful, too - I wouldn’t want to miss this. And watching Caprice in this setting is a pleasure all its own. They’re absolutely at the peak of their essence, this time of year. The chill in the air has them all energetic and bouncy, and they love the excuse to put on some cute accessories, zipping around between all the booths in the market makes them so happy, and they love to walk right up to people in costume to make conversation. I would have trouble walking up to a stranger like this myself, so with their help, I ended up learning about so many different kinds of people and cultures.
I’m very, very tired. But it’s a good kind of tired.
