Reach for Distant Horizons Akira! (Part 1)
Reach for Distant Horizons Akira! (Part 1)
“Let’s see here… thrusters… check, hyperspeed tech… check… heat shield… check..”. A small Xero was wandering about in a remote part of the desert, quite a ways away from B’Haddu inside of a distant cave she had dug out. “All parts are here, all that’s left is the assembly and we’re all set”. She quickly began assembling the spacecraft from some blueprints she had engineered. They weren’t perfect but it was enough to fit themself and a decent supply of cargo for a semi-short interstellar trip. “If proper authorization didn’t want me leavin’ OWAI-6, then they shouldn’t have made the rocket parts so easy to steal!” Akira chortled to herself. Getting into unauthorized zones and “borrowing” some parts wasn’t too hard to do, partially thanks to her small size, so she had been able to sneak around and steal parts and tools in order to build her rocket for some months now. Though she had to be careful to not trip alarms or steal too much at a time in order to avoid suspicion.
Actually building the rocket was another story though, Akira had done her best to be careful and make sure she was putting all the parts in the right places, she was no certified rocket engineer, however; she had been learning some basic engineering as a cover for her theft, and was able to sneak taking some photos of classified blueprints so she would be able to slowly put together her own rocket with time, even if it would take a lot longer. Day by day, she would sneak off to the cave for a few days and quietly yet painstakingly work on her little rocket while stockpiling any extra food, soil, seeds, medical supplies, and water she would need to go on an expedition. She wanted to try to visit another planet, but she always liked to be more prepared than not, considering this would be her first time going out on a far expedition like this. She only knew a couple planets where she would be completely fine, but having some safe food beat eating something poisonous.
She kept on welding the parts together, gathering more supplies, continuing her cover work and bit by bit the rocket started to become more complete.Over the next few months, she slowly but surely kept making more progress, and it around the time of the Twilight Carnival by now, and the rocket was about halfway done. Akira, while covering as an apprentice, heard about an outbreak of mushrooms, the most notable being the Woodland Ghost. She thought nothing of it at first, but as she started doing some more rocket work, she started thinking about it more. “Mmm… maybe I should find some rare samples to grow too, if I’m an undetected craft I could get away with mass producin’ these for a profit!”Akira thought to herself as she walked out of the cave and put up some dirt to cover her little project, and she made her way to Harbor with enough cash to get an ORB.
