Cosmic Contribution: Avril

It would be a lie to say that Avril wasn’t sure how she fell so deeply in love with music. She  could still remember the first time she heard the music from an instrument, it wasn’t much really, just a simple whistling tune from an ocarina being repeated over and over without pause. But that simple tune and sound had such a deep impact on her that she immediately wanted to learn how to do it as well.

She wanted to learn how to impact others as deeply as she was, and when she learned there were so many more kinds of instruments there was simply no way of going back for her. She remembered wanting to know everything about every single type of instrument and the beautiful music they were able to create by following rhythms and patterns.

She listened to everything she could get her hands into without discrimination or thought, not caring if she couldn’t understand the lyrics and the words being said as long as the music resonated with her in some way. Music was such a freeing thing to her, it was a way to express your thoughts and feelings without having to translate them into words.

With time, Avril was able to learn how to play from the most commonly found instruments such as a guitar and a flute, to a harp and piano to even a rare glass armonica, which produced the most haunting and echoing sounds she had ever heard, and honestly one that she was still surprised to be able to find intact.

She learned how to play everything she could get her hands on and how to create her own melodies, more importantly though, Avril learned about the best ways to express herself through her instruments alone, wanting the purity of the sound to be able to say what she often wasn't able to with words.

Words often failed her, leaving her helpless and floundering around like a fish out of water when she needed to say something. Fortunately, Avril found that music helped her put exactly what she thought out in the open without much trouble. The xero did not want to fumble around and possibly ruin the sound of her thoughts and feelings by trying to write something up for the sake of it sounding good, she wanted others to think ‘hey, this is something I can relate to’ with just the sound of her instruments alone.

So that’s what she did.

She wrote her way through everything she could, her feelings and thoughts whenever she was troubled and needed to work them out. She used everything she learnt and while she might upload them to her site at times, Avril’s identity remained anonymous, not wanting the attention and lack of privacy from people that didn’t know her and probably never would.

The friends she had and the music she made were more than enough for her, they understood her whenever she expressed herself and they encouraged her to keep doing what she loved without conditions. And that was honestly all she had ever wanted.
