Consumens Morte
The Blight beetle or Consumens Morte, are a species of beetle residing deep within the lush jungle rainforest of Kiah.
Members of this species possess a bright iridescent blue-green skull-like marking on its back with various spots. Underneath their carapace houses a set of water resistant wings allowing them to still take flight even during the harsher monsoon months.
Their primary diet revolves around consuming the tree infesting blight affecting the region, however they have also been documented eating other forms of decaying plant matter. This diet has allowed them to become highly venomous, with their toxins being present in their spit and blood.
Blight beetles will also make their nests in decaying trees, housing up to over 100 individuals. During their mating season in the summer months, egg laying members will deposit a cluster of eggs on sheltered moist plant leaves. The eggs are coated in a sticky residue that allows them to stay tightly packed together and secure on the leaf until they hatch.
While this species is believed to be an omen of warning to the locals, blight beetles are non aggressive and have had no recorded cases of causing death. These small invertebrates may play a crucial role into medical research for antivenoms and other medicines as well as the possible solution for helping restore extremely damaged sections of the jungle.
