Ghost Hunt

When he heard that they were searching for a ghost, of course Sukuna couldn’t resist the urge to come check it out.

He didn’t realize this was what they meant.

Damn it, he was roped into a mushroom hunt.

Yuuji trotted along ahead of him, enthusing to Megumi about the funky little purple mushroom he’d found. He wanted to eat it and see if he started hallucinating, but of course Megumi was the smarter of them and told him not to.

They didn’t know what that thing was!

They didn’t know what any of the weird mushrooms out here were.

Why the hell did he agree to come along?

Yuuji gasped, and Sukuna’s ears perked up. “LOOK! I found it! A white one!”

Sukuna edged closer and Megumi leaned in, both looking at what Yuuji was so proudly pointing at.

It was a white mushroom alright, but that was not the same one they were looking for.

This one was short, with a flat top and yellow goop coming out of the cap. Sukuna’s nose wrinkled at the smell. “Don’t touch that,” he snapped when Yuuji reached for it.

His brother froze, looking at him with wide eyes. “Wha-”

“You’re not wearing your gloves,” Megumi pointed out, and Yuugi drew back quickly.

“That’s not the one we’re here for anyway,” Sukuna grumbled, though he snapped the mushroom in a gloved paw and stuck it in one of the small containment orbs they’d been given for this task.

When he offered the orb over to his brother, Yuuji was wearing a stupid grin. “Thank you,” the little brat had the audacity to say as he took the orb from Sukuna to put in his backpack.

All four of Sukuna’s eyes narrowed. He wasn’t here because he wanted to be. He thought they were hunting a ghost! Yuuji had no right to look so smug at him after tricking him by calling this a “Ghosthunt Expedition”.

“Yeah, yeah,” he grumbled, turning away.

This mushroom was certainly harder to find than he’d expected it to be. So far, they’d found five that look like claws growing from trees, one weird purple one, a green one that stung Yuuji when he touched it without gloves (thus, the reminder) and this… weird egg looking thing.

But they were traveling deeper into the forest now. Getting closer to the area that the original outbreak occurred in. That zone had already been searched, but those around it… well, there had already been plenty of reports.

Sukuna just hoped the reward for this stupid mushroom hunt was as good as Yuuji said it was.

It better not be sautéed mushrooms, or he was going to-

Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a glow.

Sukuna turned toward it, Megumi and Yuuji pausing on the route ahead as they noticed him stopping.

“What did you find?” Yuuji called, jogging back toward him.

By the base of a fallen tree, there was a small, rounded-capped mushroom, white and glowing softly as they’d been told to expect. Sukuna’s face broke into a pleased smirk. “What we’re here for~”

He was quick to get the mushroom into an orb, radiating smug satisfaction ad Yuuji exclaimed and Megumi suggested they search around here for more.

They would get that reward alright~
