A Leap of Courage

It was a normal morning for Akira, their alarm had just gone off and they had started their usual morning routine. Putting on piercings, getting their hair in check, and making sure they were all clean and ready to start the day. Though today’s schedule would be a little different. Akira pulled out a small box from her drawer and pulled out the orb she had hatched from. It had been 22 years since she had hatched out in this cave, and she had barely made it out alive thanks to the residents of B’Haddu.

Putting the orb inside her bag she made her way out. She couldn’t complain much, at least she was lucky to have made it out and lived the life she had now, but she always wondered why she ended up here? Was she stolen from somewhere? Abandoned by someone who wasn’t truly ready for the responsibility? Or maybe even dropped accidentally? Akira kicked herself into a sprint on all fours and made her way towards B’Haddu. The usual questions of why she was here flooded her mind on the way there, hatchday for her was never easy, the cave was the place she knew as her home. She didn’t hate it at all, she just wished she knew why things happened the way they did

Akira slowed down and eventually got up on all fours as she neared the city. For most other Xeros it would be a day of pure celebration, and Akira wanted to maybe see if getting something small for herself would maybe help herself cheer up. Akira pulled out a piece of paper from her bag, an advertisement for a bakery which had opened a few months ago, and started trying to make her way to its location. DJing always seemed to go  well at the venues she performed at, so she did have some extra courage to at least try something new. Stopping in a corner, Akira pulled out her orb from the bag and stared at it for some time longer. It would be a big leap of faith to do this, but she did want to make more friends to help support her through something like this in the future.

She took a deep breath, and opened the door. As she opened it, the scent of freshly baked pies started to waft through the air. It was almost as if the pies themselves had opened the door for her! She was pleasantly surprised and stood still for a moment until she heard a Xero call out, “Welcome miss! How can I elp you today?” “I uhh I would um like a pie if that’s ok with you. It’s my first time around this area, sorry if I don’t know what I’m doin’ haha” Akira replied, slightly embarrassed. The two of them would chat for a while before eventually the Xero convinced Akira to share a pie together, as it was a bit of a slow day. Her hatchday had never been one to remember but maybe for once, she could start trying to find her courage and make it matter.
