[Survey] [ARC SURVEY 14] Beating the heat in B'Haddu!
Goliath lives in B’Haddu, while water is plentiful in the city the desert heat especially during the summer leaves denizens are usually in their house all day. Younger xeros who are more accustomed to the hot desert weather tend to play in water basins artificially made by the city. Most of the ones born here tend to have shorter coats that are made to not really contain the heat as much. Goliath, having a standard length coat is definitely more envious of his more desert adept neighbors. Goliath spends a lot of time outside for work unfortunately during the hot summer days. Goliath, who helps with some of the infrastructure building and repair is constantly walking and hauling materials during the day. Customarily wearing a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun out of his eyes. On especially hot days he takes a dip during his breaks to cool off. Public drinking fountains are available always for hydration either straight from the tap or in water bladders made out of leathery, thick fruit skins. Citizens out during the day tend to stick to the shade also wearing wide brimmed hats or cloths to cover bare skin to prevent sunburns. Sandals are customary to day workers to prevent burning their feet paws.
Some xeros tend to congregate at sweet shops that offer frozen treats during this time. Popsicles made with a base of Sweetsap juice, sometimes flavored with diced Pompen Arils. A creamy long popsicle with crunchy but refreshingly cold bits of Arils spread about. This is his favorite treat after the day is over and stops at a shop like this near his home when work is done. Happily sucking on the sweet and refreshing treat as he walks home towards sundown.
Nights out here are quite colder as the warmth dissipates from the sand. Most other citizens come out after sundown to run their errands or for leisure. Senior citizens and longer furred individuals tend to come out at this time since they are out of the oppressive heat. Merchants in the market sometimes offer freshly sun dried berries and some fruits that were made during the morning’s heat to dry. Some take these to make parfaits with Sweetsap yogurt in the morning or eat straight as a snack. Sometimes the fruits are grinded and then mixed with a bit of juice and then left to dry again and eaten like fruit leather or jerky.
Families will congregate for dinner out of the tops of their houses with a view of the starry night sky. Musicians filling the air with music and dancing. Kids who have finished their dinner and chores tend to meet with other kids to play at this time, dance, or listen to the music. Parents and some singles will sit by as they talk about their days. Goliath meets with some regulars for a few drinks and to listen to traditional Haddu folk music. Cool breezes tend to brush through the canyon where B’Haddu sits. Where people like Goliath find comfort from working in the sun all day. That is how Goliath and B’Haddu stands the summer heat.
This about how Goliath and other citizen of B'Haddu spend the time during the summer.
