[Survey] The Inkwell Café

Daphne quickly checked over the café one more time to make sure everything was ready for opening, all tables were clean, blankets folded, reading nooks ready and all the books in their right spot. It was part of her morning routine, she wouldn’t directly admit it but she’s quite the perfectionist. She looked at the clock on the wall and when the big hand reached the top she turned the sign on the door from closed to open, the Inkwell Café is officially open.

It was a bit of a quiet Thursday morning with a few people stopping by for a to-go order and some of the regular customers taking a seat at their usual spot to start their day of work. The Inkwell Café is an open air café and library in Aberion used by all kinds of people to enjoy a tasty drink or small meal, to read a book or to enjoy the quiet space to do some work. Daphne had created the place so that everyone had a place to sit where they felt comfortable, in the middle were several regular tables and left and right to the entrance where bar-like tables with a window to look out on the streets. On the left and right walls were several nooks on ground level or higher up and in several spots around the café were floor spaces, soft chairs and couches. And in the back opposite to the door was the bar and kitchen where Daphne made all the food and drinks.

Through the years of working at the Inkwell Daphne had learned some tricks to know what customers needed, so while some would rather just sit in silence others would like to talk with her about their day. Sometimes you might not even know you needed a talk, but she did. Busy workers would never be without a drink and Daphne made sure you have something to eat. ‘Stay hydrated, it really helps you think!’ She smiled, putting down a fresh beverage, no ordering needed.

‘Daphne, hi sorry I’m a bit later than usual’ Stephy just walked it and waved, she was a pretty shy small creature a bit feline like but with a more fox-like tail and big long ears that she hid behind. ‘Oh, good to see you, almost started to think you might not come today’ Daphne smiled and walked to the bar ‘a taro boba tea?’ Stephy nodded and made her way to a small nook in the corner. A bit later Daphne gave her the boba tea, ‘planning to read something new today?’ Stephy looked up at her ‘yeah, do you have “The mystery of the teal islands” by any chance, it only released yesterday’. Daphne scratched her head and grabbed a tablet from her pouch. She mumbled to herself while typing, then nodded a few times and walked through a small door behind the bar. ‘Got it!’ Stephy smiled ‘it was still in a box in the back, arrived earlier this morning’ she handed Stephy the book and continued with her work.
