[XOTM] Stinky | Gem Finder

There was always something to be said about organization being anything as long as you can find what you need when you need it, but Stinky was really regretting not organizing his hoard better right now. Most of his gemstones were in their proper places, but no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find a particular gem that had quickly become one of his favorites. It was a nice bright emerald with small tints of blue- it honestly looked a little bit like himself if you took away his more intense dark markings. Maybe that's why he enjoyed the look of it so much- it was like peeking into a reflective pool. It was because of this that he imagined he would have been able to find it if he just tossed it somewhere in his hoard along with some of his other beloved gems... but here he was, digging desperately through his collection trying to find that beautiful emerald. And once he got through his pile without find it, he just started to dig further into the ground. He wasn't a stranger to burying things in the dirt for safekeeping, so it was logical that he would check under the dirt as well.
He shoved a few small bugs out of his way as he clawed through cave soil, making small upset noises and apologizing to the tiny insects under his breath. After all, it wasn't like the bugs were at any fault for the gem being missing. In fact, Stinky didn't even know what could have cause his gem to disappear. He had scared off anyone who got too close to his hoard, and he had been keeping a close eye on it ever since he added the emerald to his collection- an even closer eye on it than usual, that is.
Eventually, stinky felt his claws click against something in the dirt. He quickly grabbed hold of it with his two large hands and pulled it up so that he could look at it properly. It was a gem of course- but alas, it wasn't the emerald. However, attached to the ruby he pulled up was a small note, the handwriting scratched out and hard to make out. Stinky could read it just fine though, seeing as he was the one who wrote it.
"Future Stinky,
Emerald is buried under cave pool next to hoard, rebury note for next time.
from, Past Stinky."
The xero blinked. Well, he was certainly glad he had the foresight to write out that note beforehand, even if it was just... claw marks on a piece of paper. He quickly buried the note and ruby back under the dirt and made his way over to the cave pool near his hoard. As soon as his paw hit the bottom of the water, he could feel the emerald under the pool floor. He let out an exhale of relief, grabbing it and bringing it up to his face, eyes sparkling as he looked at the gemstone once more.
Stinky loved his collection, but he admittedly had favorites. Maybe one day he'd actually remember one of the special gem hiding spots without needing a note.
