[XOTM] Rook
The sound of music drifted through the open window of the building, the deep sounds of the bass strings being plucked to create a soothing melody wafted through the air in an almost hushed whisper, a sound that resonated with those passing close by with ease. Rook plucked the last few notes in an almost lazy fashion and finished his song with a deep satisfied sigh, soon after grabbing the bass by the neck and lovingly lifting it as he got up from his place on the couch, placing the stringed instrument down on its stand with care.
The dark colored xero walked closer to the window, taking a curious peek out at the city of B'haddu while rubbing his aching wrist before being distracted by the specially bright light with which the stars shined on this night. He placed both hands on the window sill in an almost absent minded manner and leaned out, almost falling out with how he tried to get closer. Rook leaned back inside and left the window open in his rush to get out of the house, slamming his door closed in his way and running down the road before slowly slowing to a walk, his gaze fixed on the stars as they seemed to almost twinkle every now and then.
Rook came out of it in a snap, realizing the way in which he had left his home was haphazard at best and reckless at best, not remembering if he had locked the door or not before waving his worried away and making a snap decision to walk towards his favorite star gazing spot since he was already out. It was a deserted place high up where the road ended in a steep cliff and the night sky seemed endless, making him feel as if he was closer to the stars than ever before. It was not a secret by any means that he spent a lot of time up there if he was being honest, but others also knew that he liked to spend that time alone, a little period of peace in his otherwise busy life.
He finally got to the top and laid down on the ground, determined to spend an hour or two to let his thoughts clear from his mind before heading home. He was feeling slightly drowsy, feeling comfortable enough to take a quick nap before a bright light flashed through his eyelids. Quickly opening his eyes, Rook scanned the sky with a quick glance, almost giving up and closing his eyes once again before noticing a fleeting light out of the corner of his eye. He was about to turn his head when the light grew slightly closer through the sky. With amazement, Rook realized he was witnessing his first meteor shower. His eyes stayed fixed on the paths the meteors took, sitting up in place and leaning back on his arms to watch the flashing of the lights before they disappeared once again into the dark.
With a pleased sigh and a slight smile, he settled in place to watch it all until the end, not knowing when he would ever have another chance to witness such a spectacular sight once again.
