New Beginnings
Agave was new to the area. Back in his home region of the Kubai Desert, he’d spent his lifetime getting to know his surroundings, making friendships and becoming a part of his community. Agave thrived in social settings and made it a point to make everyone feel included. Now, as he walked up the wide branch to this stranger’s home here in the city of Aberion, he was nervous. This was his first major social event in his new hometown: an anniversary party. He felt like an absolute Boolew out of water, but he hoped his warm and laid back personality would help him blend in.
As he arrived at the address, Agave felt a mix of excitement and nerves swirl in his belly. The house was alive with lights and music, laughter spilling out into the night. He took a deep breath, clutched his bag filled with a variety of drinks, and stepped inside.
The main room was crowded with Xeros chatting, dancing, and enjoying the atmosphere. Agave scanned the room, looking for the host or a friendly face to start a conversation and drop off his goodies with. He noticed a small group of people near the snack table and decided to join them.
“Hi there,” he said, his voice slightly muffled by the loud, bumping music. “I’m Agave. I’m new to the area.”
The group turned to look at him, antennae bobbing and smiles widening on their faces. A blue Xero smiled warmly. “Hello, Agave! I’m Ziggy, and these are my friends. Welcome to the party!”
Agave’s eyes brightened. “Thank you, Ziggy. I’ve never been to an ARC Anniversary party before. It’s quite exciting!”
Ziggy chuckled. “Well, you picked a good one to start with. We’ve got great music, amazing food, and the best company.”
Agave nodded eagerly. “I can see that! Could you tell me more about what people usually do at these anniversary parties? Also, I brought some drinks and snacks I think people would enjoy.” Ziggy smiled appreciatively and took the bag, turning away to add things to the overflowing snack table.
Another, petite Xero with red spotted fur, stepped forward. “Just like any other party! We talk, dance, play games, and just have fun. Speaking of which, would you like to dance?”
Agave hesitated for a moment. Dancing was something others had done at his parties back home, but never actually tried himself. He wanted to make a good impression with these potential new friends, so he took a breath and replied, “I’d love to, but I’m not very good at it. Two left feet you know?”
She laughed and smiled. “Don’t worry, it’s all about having fun. Just follow my lead.”
She took his hand and led him to the dance floor. The music was upbeat, and Agave tried to mimic her movements. He stumbled a few times, but her laughter and encouragement made him relax. Soon, he found himself moving more confidently, enjoying the rhythm and energy around him.
After a few songs, they took a break. Agave felt exhilarated. “That was amazing! Thank you!”
“You did great!” she replied. “I’m glad you’re having a good time.”
As they rejoined Ziggy, another guest approached them. “Hey, is this the newbie everyone’s talking about?”
Agave turned to see a Xero with green and red fur and a friendly grin. “Yes, I’m Agave. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Sift. I’ve never met someone from Kubai before. What brings you to Aberion?”
Agave explained his fascination with the tree city, the deep forest and his desire to experience it firsthand. Sift listened intently, nodding along. “That’s awesome. You’re really brave to come here and just jump into things.”
Agave smiled. “Thank you! I’ve found everyone to be very welcoming so far.”
The night continued with more dancing, conversations, and even a tasting of new culinary delights featuring Ru berries that Ziggy had ordered just for the party. He found himself surrounded by new friends, each one eager to learn about his life in Kubai and share their own experiences.
As the party wound down, Agave felt a deep sense of gratitude. His first party in the city had been a huge success, thanks to the kindness and open-mindedness of the people he’d met. He knew this was just the beginning of many adventures to come.
As he left the house, Agave looked up at the stars peeking through the treetops, feeling a connection to both his new home and his new friends. He was excited for the future and the endless possibilities that awaited him in this incredible arboreal city.
Agave moves to a whole new city, and is invited to a big celebration. Will he finally have a chance to make a new community for himself?
