Where is the Base I color in for my Boolew MYO?
You can find the base HERE

Help! I can't get the base to open!
Oh no! Please reach out to a member of the Staff Team for assistance.

I don't know how to do digital art / don't have an art program, how can I participate?
Feel free to ask for help with your MYO in our Discord server! We can assist you!

Who should I credit for the base when uploading my Boolew on Toyhou.se?
On Toyhouse you can credit NeonSlushie by adding their TH as a link in the Off-site Artist section. This way their Art tab won't get flooded!

If I commission an artist to design my Boolew with real money, will it add to their sale value? What about site currency?
If you commission an artist with real money to design you a Boolew, you may indeed add it to their sale price by submitting it on our “Resale Value Approval” prompt! Site currency does not add to a characters sale value!

My question isn't answered here, where should I ask it?
You can ask any Boolew or event questions in our Discord channel #myo-questions! Make sure to check if they have been answered before submitting a question! You can also comment on this page directly if you need help.

MYO / Design Questions

What do the points mean? What traits can I add?
A free Boolew MYO comes with 10 base points to work with. Each layer on the base lists the number of points the trait is worth! You may use up to 10 points in any combination to make your free MYO! To add more points, go to the on-site Companion Center to buy Detritos; a treat that raises the amount of points you may use for your MYO!

How do the treats work? How do I add them to my MYO?
When submitting your Boolew MYO there is a section of the MYO submission page called “Add Ons” - this is where you place your Detritos! If your Boolew MYO has 12 points total, you would need your boolew MYO (10 points) and 1 Detrito bag (5 points) to make it.

What colors and patterns can I have for my MYO?
Boolews can come in nearly any color or pattern! See our creation guide for more information.

Can I make up my own traits for my Boolew MYO?
No. In order to have your Boolew approved on our Masterlist you must use the premade template. More traits may be added in the future!

Can I add accessories to my Boolew?
For the Masterlist Art, we ask that you do not add any accessories such as a bow or a scarf to your Boolew. We want to keep the Companion ML consistent! You are welcome to draw them with accessories in personal art.

Can I edit the lineart for the Boolew base?
Outside of erasing overlapping lines on the base when adding traits and coloring the lineart when finished, NO, the lineart cannot be edited for the Masterlist Art base. Please do not move traits, resize traits, or draw over them.

Can I change my Boolew's eyes?
No, sorry. Boolew have simple, unshaded dot eyes because they are simple ocelli (photo receptors), not true eyes. Please do not add shine, expression, or shading to their eyes. You can change the color though, as long as it's flat!

Can I add extra limbs/extra eyes/extra antennae to my Boolew?
No, no lineart may be changed and no limbs, eyes, or other traits outside of the layered base options may be added.

Can I design my Boolew to look like my Xero/my OC/A pop character like Pikachu?
Per our design rules:
”Your MYO design can also be based off a popular media character, so long as it is not copied too directly. For example, you can use your MYO to create a character that is yellow with black ear tips and red circles on its cheeks, but it must also contain other additions to the design to make sure its not a blatant rip-off of everyone's favorite electric mouse.”

As for designing Boolews off of existing Xeros, we are asking to not do so at this time in case of a Xero or Boolew changing hands! You are welcome to design your Boolew to match your Xero's colors a bit, but it should not be a direct copy of the design.

Can I redesign my Boolew later?
Boolews do not have changable XNA like Xeros do, and cannot be redesigned with new colors or have more traits added to them later. Once they're "hatched", that's what they look like!

How do I submit my Boolew to the Masterlist?
Much like a Xero MYO slot, you must click the item in your inventory, check off the box under Source, and click “Use Slot”. You can then submit your Boolew by heading to Home > My MYO Slots, clicking on the egg, and then clicking "Submit MYO Design".

Boolew Specific Questions

Are Boolew intelligent?
Boolews are worm or slug-like marine invertebrates, so they are not very smart! Boolews cannot be trained or taught tricks, but with time and patience they can learn to recognize their caretaker and can enjoy the benefits of crawling onto a warm paw to be hand-fed.

What sort of tank do Boolews get kept in?
Glad you asked! They are usually kept in a traditionally globe-shaped saltwater tank with vegetation, rocks, and stimuli! These orb-like structures can be expanded to connect together via clear pipes to give a Boolew a lot of room to explore or add additional boolews!

How do Boolew reproduce?
Much like Earth's snails and slugs, Boolews are hermaphrodites and can produce many eggs in a clutch! It's a big part of why these little worms are popular companions! Unlike with some fish, there is no risk of Boolew eating their tiny larvae, meaning that if an Alurizan had a large breeding tank no Boolews inside would harm each other!

What do Boolew eat?
Boolew are detritivores and consume microscopic plant matter found in their environment, much like the decaying plants they eat on the sea floor. I have heard that many Boolew owners enjoy feeding their little friends "Algae Detritos" as a snack, for example!

How big are Boolew? How long do they live?
Boolew are tiny little guys! Most are about 3 inches (7.5 cm) long, though the largest individuals can get up to 8 inches (20 cm). Their average lifespan is 2-3 years, but due to excellent animal husbandry it is not uncommon to see them living 5 years or longer.

Can Boolews go on land?
Nope! Boolew are aquatic creatures, they need to be in saltwater to survive. They can tolerate being lifted out of water for a short period of time (usually to monitor their health) as long as they are kept wet, but in general, they should be kept under water.

Boolew Base File

Your Design

In order for your Companion MYO to be approved, you must have a clear, on-base, digital image of your design with a transparent background. Look at other Companions on the Companion Masterlist for an example of how the designs should look.

The image must be cleanly colored and show off most markings and features with little to no shading, so that all of your character's colors and patterns are easily seen. Your completed MYO design must be done on our official Boolew base! You are welcome to draw your Boolew however you'd like in personal art, but their Masterlist image must be made using the official base and traits.

When creating your design for your Companion MYO please ensure your completed design is not a copy of another existing Companion!

You may also commission another artist to design the Companion for you if you are not an artist or are not confident with your design abilities. Any real word currency spent may be added to the Companion's Sale Value.

Boolew of the Companion variety are descended from the hardy benthic slugs living on Tidex-c II. Studies in the lab have shown that Boolew are ideal for domestic life. Due to other life forms' limited genetic plasticity there are some parameters that must followed when adopting a Companion from ARC Labs: Companion Center division.

The gene plasticity of these animals is much less than that of a Xero. All Companion Eggs comes with a base point value by default; for the health of these creatures we have assigned a maximum point value of 10 to each new Boolew Egg Slot. Each gene mutation applied to a Companion is associated with a Point Value. You may add as many traits as you’d like, given they are compatible, up to your Companion's maximum point value. Your Companion's maximum point value can be increased by attaching a treat to your slot when submitting your design. You can add multiple treats to increase your MYOs point value multiple times. Boolew treats are called Detritos and can be purchased in the Companion Center.

Appearance

Colors: Boolews come in a vast array of colors and have the ability to be quite the spectacle with a wide spread of patterns. Boolews do not have any color or marking restrictions, as long as the design is appropriate. Gradients and blended colors are OK, but please avoid excessive shading. However, once a Boolew has been hatched, their colors and traits cannot be changed later.

Eyes:
Boolew have simple ocelli (photo receptors), not true eyes. Please do not add shine, expression, or shading to their eyes. They can be any color though, as long as it's flat!

Traits

Boolews can display many fun gene mutations on their bodies. Many Caretakers agree these aquatic slugs have big personalities. If you are confused with anything, feel free to reach out to a member of the Staff Team!

APPROVING & UPLOADING

Finally... you’ve finished your Companion's design…
Let’s get them approved and uploaded to the Companion Masterlist!

HOW TO UPLOAD A FINISHED Companion
(NOTE: When filling out the Egg submission form, remember to press “Save” at the end of each tab once you are done with it!)

Make sure your image shows the design clearly, and has a transparent background! Please keep any shading to a minimum!

Go to your Inventory and click on the Egg. Click on the checkboxes, and then 'Use Slot' and 'Open'. This turns the Egg from an item in your inventory into a useable slot. Then, click the “Home” tab on the top bar, and then click “My MYO Slots.

Click on the Egg slot you wish to use.

On the side menu at the bottom, look for and click “Submit MYO design.”
(For mobile users: To get to the side menu, look for the black arrow at the top left of your screen. Scroll to the bottom to find “Submit MYO design” and click it.)

Click "Create Request".

1. The first step is the 'Comments' tab, but this can be ignored unless you have something special to note that Staff needs to be aware of. Click 'Save' to move on to the next tab!

2. Head to the 'Masterlist Image' tab and use the 'Choose File' button to submit the on-base image of your companion. Use the image cropper tool to zoom all the way out so that your entire Boolew shows within the square.

  • Underneath your image is a place for your designer's username. If you were the designer: put your username in the designer box! Were there two designers? Use the “+” next to the designer space to add a second designer.
  • Leave the Designer URL blank if the designer or artist has a ProjectXero.org account. If they do NOT have a site account, put their social media URL into the Designer URL and leave the first box blank.
  • Please put Admin for the base artist credit.

Next, let's click the “Add-Ons” tab.
3. This is where you submit your items for the traits you have added on to your Companion, such as Detritos. To see your items, you will need to click the “Show” button beside the text that says 'Your inventory.' From there, just scroll until you find the items you want, and click the check box to the left of the item. Each Detrito item will add 5 more points to your maximum total points.

4, Now we are in the final steps! Click the “Traits” tab next.
  • From here, you need to list what traits are expressed on your Companion. For example, if you used the Crowned Rhinophore trait on your design, click the 'Add Trait Button' and search for the “Crowned Rhinophore” trait in the box that pops up. Continue adding traits up to your Companion's Maximum Point Value is met.

5.  Head back to the 'Status' tab once these are all filled in and all the tabs have a green circle next to them. Click 'Submit Request!'

Once that is submitted: You are good to go! A member of the team will manually approve your Companion MYO or send it back with a comment if anything needs to be changed.

That's it! You’re all done!! If you don't need to make any changes, your design will be uploaded to the Masterlist to become an official companion!

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW Companion! 🎉
