In the netherlands household appliances get recycled either by bringing them to local collection sites or a more used way, they can be returned through shop when buying a new one of the broken appliance. somethimes they even give you a discount when turning in your old one.

this is also done with phones, at the local telecom store we can turn in old phones and this will save some money on the new one. the old phones will then be refurbished or used for parts.
