Standard Ears (Standard)
By default, all Xeros have ears that are located on the sides of their heads, roughly in line with their eyes. These ears can vary a bit in shape or size, but are always folded in and tapered at the base.
How To Use This Trait
Do
- Standard Ears can vary in size and shape but are similar to an Earth deer's ear: tapered at the base and tip for a roughly 'diamond' shape.
- A very small tuft of fur can be added to the inside of Standard Ears if desired!
- A little bit of soft shading can be added inside the base of the ear.
Don't
- The color inside a Xero's ear is bare skin, not fur! For fluffy ears, see Tundra Ears.
- Ears should be be placed roughly in line with the eyes, not on the top of the head.
- Shading in the ears should be free of hard lines or colors. For ridged ears or ear markings, see Hollow Ears and Patterned Skin.
This trait can be added freely to any Xero, without the use of an item.

Standard Claws (Standard)
By default, Xeros have small, rounded claws. Their claws are shiny and just slightly translucent. They cannot have no claws, or claws of a different shape or size than this without a special mutation.
Standard Tail (Standard)
By default, Xeros have long kangaroo or otter-like tails that are thick at the base and taper to a soft point at the end.
Slit Pupils (Standard)
Some Xeros may have thin, slit pupils instead of the standard round or oval ones. This is an uncommon adaptation, but the Xeros that have this style of eye tend to have even stronger night vision.
Tufted Ears (Standard)
Tufted Ears are a common mutation observed on Xeros. These ears can be any shape or size, but feature tufts of longer fur at the tips. This adaptation may have allowed Xeros to more easily determine wind direction and stay downwind of danger.

Retractable Claws (Standard)
Some Xeros may have retractable claws; however this is a not a common adaptation. These claws are slightly more pointy than the standard Xero claws, but are otherwise exactly the same when not retracted inside. When not in use, they just show up as simple slits on the paws, sometimes hidden by the fur.
If a Xero gains the Savannah Hooves trait while having Retractable Claws already present on the Xero, the limbs that turn into hooves will lose retractable claws. However, if the hooves are ever removed on a redesign, the user is always allowed to "bring back" their Retractable Claws on their Xero.
Antennae (Standard)
Antennae are the most common trait displayed by Xeros. These sensitive feelers enhance a Xero's senses and help them navigate in difficult environments. The antennae can be many different lengths, and can be present on the head, back, tail, or on the cheeks like "whiskers".
How To Use This Trait
Do
- A Xero's antennae are always soft, flexible, and tube-shaped.
- The tips of antennae may be rounded, bulbous, heart-tipped, curled, etc.
Don't
- Xero antennae are never fluffy or densely furred.
- Insect or moth-like antennae are not included under this trait.

Tufted Tail (Standard)
Tufted Tails are a common mutation observed on Xeros. These tails can be any size or shape, but feature a tuft of longer fur at the tip, like a lion.
Canis Tail (Standard)
A common tail mutation observed on Xeros is the canis tail; these tails are fluffy and tapered with a pointed tip. They can range from scruffy dog-like tails to longer poofy fox tails.
How To Use This Trait
Do
- Fluffy dog, wolf, or fox-like tails with a pointed tip.
- Tail should have a tapered shape: thinner at the base and tip, thicker in the middle.
Don't
- Thicker kangaroo-like tails should use Standard Tail. Thinner rounded noodle tails should use Felis Tail.
- Canis tails have a thin core and are mostly fur. Extra-thick tails should use the Desert Tail trait.

Felis Tail (Standard)
A common tail mutation observed on Xeros is the felis tail; a long noodle-shaped tail! These round-tipped tails aren't tapered and are roughly the same width all the way around.
How To Use This Trait
Do
- Felis tails include thin cat-like tails or poofier red panda tails.
- Tail should be roughly the same width all the way around, with very little tapering and a rounded tip.
Don't
- Thicker kangaroo-like tails should use Standard Tail. Scruffy tails with a pointed tip should use Canis Tail.
- These tails should not be very pointy at the tip.
